LightXtreme VPN FAQ

Windows, macOS, Android and iOS are supported. You can install the app on Windows PCs, Macs, Android phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads.

Here is what to do:
On mobile:
Smart mode: uses preset site rules and proxies only the sites that need it
Global mode: all traffic goes through the proxy
On desktop:
Smart mode: uses preset site rules and proxies only the sites that need it
Global mode: all computer traffic goes through the proxy

Here is what to do:
Network conditions differ by region. Pick the line that matches the region you want to reach — the site or the game — and prefer the one with lower latency.

Here is what to do:
LightXtreme VPN has no data cap at all. Note that if your device has no internet connection of its own, no VPN app can work either.

Here is what to do:
Turn off global mode and switch to smart mode.

Yes, LightXtreme VPN is secure. Here are the key protections: 1. Strong encryption and security protocols: LightXtreme VPN uses Shadowsocks, Vless and WireGuard, with AES-256-GCM and ChaCha20-Poly1305, so data cannot be intercepted or read in transit. Tunnel protocols keep the path between your device and the VPN server safe from tampering or capture.
2. Privacy and anonymity: your real IP is hidden behind a LightXtreme VPN server IP. DNS leak protection keeps lookups inside the VPN tunnel, and a zero-logs commitment means your activity is not recorded.
3. Protection from monitoring and regional blocks: LightXtreme VPN helps you reach blocked sites and services, stops your ISP from seeing which sites you visit, and encrypts traffic on public Wi-Fi so attackers cannot read it.

Here is what to do:
1. Check antivirus and firewall settings: security software sometimes blocks VPN connections, so try disabling it temporarily and reconnect. 2. Contact work with: if the issue persists, launch the app, go to My page and tap contact work with, including a detailed description and screenshots so our technical team can help.

Here is what to do:
Check that your real IP is hidden like this:
1. Note your current IP: before connecting, launch a browser and search 'my IP address'. 2. Access and check again: once connected, search 'my IP address' once more — if the address changed, your real IP is hidden. 3. Clear the cache: if it did not change, the browser may show a cached result. Clear the cache, restart the browser or try another one.

Below is a detailed explanation of every option on the LightXtreme VPN settings page, including the Windows and macOS specific ones.
1. Local DNS settings
⦁ Description: sets the DNS resolver for domestic domains. It is usually best to match your ISP's DNS for faster and steadier access to local sites.
⦁ Recommended when other local services on your LAN cannot be reached: set local DNS to 'local' so LAN devices resolve local addresses first and avoid issues caused by external DNS.
2. Remote DNS settings.
⦁ Description: sets the DNS resolver for international domains such as Google. An international resolver (Google DNS or Cloudflare) usually improves connection performance and resolution efficiency.
⦁ Recommended when you visit international sites often: remote DNS improves both performance and stability.
3. New protocol
⦁ Description: enables or disables the newer encryption protocol (such as VLESS) for stronger security and more reliable connections.
⦁ Recommended: keep the new protocol on for better privacy; turn it off if connections behave oddly or stop working.
4. Disconnect all connections when switching
⦁ Description: drops the current connection when you switch servers, so traffic never keeps using the old IP and every connection picks up a fresh address.
⦁ Recommended: leave it on so switching servers always refreshes your IP address and keeps you private.
5. Enable IPv6
⦁ Description: sets the protocol used for DNS resolution. Off means IPv4 only, on means both IPv4 and IPv6 are resolved.
⦁ Recommended: turn it on for faster access on IPv6-capable networks; turn it off on unstable or restricted networks.
6. One-tap return to China
⦁ Description: helps users abroad reach Chinese content such as Youku, iQIYI and Tencent Video.
⦁ Recommended when Chinese sites are restricted from abroad: switch it on to bypass regional limits and improve the viewing experience.
7. BT proxy downloads
⦁ Description: proxies BT downloads so P2P traffic is encrypted and network restrictions are bypassed.
⦁ Recommended: switch it on when using BT on restricted networks or when you want your downloads to stay private.
8. Direct-access domains
⦁ Description: the listed domains bypass the VPN and access directly, ideal for common local domains that do not need proxying.
⦁ Recommended: add everyday sites, banks and payment pages to the direct list for faster, safer access.
9. Proxy per application
⦁ Description: lets specific applications access directly without the VPN, which suits lighter usage.
⦁ Recommended: add local or non-proxied apps to the list to save data and performance up connections.
10. Windows specific options
TUN mode
⦁ Description: routes all system traffic through the VPN via a virtual network adapter, giving stronger security and leak protection.
⦁ Recommended: useful for high-privacy needs or public networks, but it uses more system resources.
Proxy mode
⦁ Description: applies only to selected apps or browsers and sends some traffic through the proxy server instead of routing everything.
⦁ Recommended: handy if you only need to performance up or protect one browser, with less overhead while still keeping some privacy.
11. macOS specific options
On M-series Macs you can enable the VPN through a system extension. When it runs as a system extension, per-application proxying stops working because the extension cannot tell which app the traffic comes from.

Here is what to do:
1. When should I change local DNS?
When other local services on your LAN cannot be reached, set local DNS to 'local' so LAN devices resolve local addresses first and avoid access problems.
2. When should I adjust the new protocol?
Normally leave the new protocol on for stronger security and privacy; if connections become unstable, try turning it off.
3. Should Windows users choose proxy mode or TUN mode?
If the network stops working after enabling TUN mode on Windows, switch to proxy mode. Proxy mode affects only selected apps or browsers, uses fewer resources and still routes the apps you need through the VPN.
Together these options let you tune performance, privacy and stability for whatever network you are on.

Here is what to do:
360 Security may flag LightXtreme VPN as risky and uninstall it. Is LightXtreme VPN a threat? No — it is certified security software with an international security certificate embedded. This is a false positive.
Add LightXtreme VPN to the 360 whitelist so it runs normally:
1. Launch 360 Security;
2. Click Trojan detection in the main menu;
3. Click the Trusted Zone panel on the right;
4. Click Add file, choose LightXtreme VPN and launch it;
5. Tick the confirmation prompt;
6. Click OK to finish;
Note: in different versions of 360 Security the Trusted Zone may sit elsewhere, but the steps are the same.
LightXtreme VPN is upgraded regularly to keep pace with changing network policies worldwide. An update replaces the old version and invalidates the whitelist, so please add the whitelist entry again after updating to keep everything working.

Here is what to do:
1. Launch the LightXtreme VPN app, go to My > VPN settings and turn off TUN mode in the proxy settings. Then return to the home screen, tap Enable and access.
2. If it still happens, uninstall LightXtreme VPN, get it again from the official website and try connecting once more.
If the problem persists, tap My > Support inside the app and our team will help you online.

Here is what to do:
1. Launch LightXtreme VPN and confirm your network connection works.
2. Go to My > Settings > VPN settings > Proxy settings and switch TUN mode on.
3. Return to the main screen, disconnect, then restart the app.

Here is what to do:
1. Update LightXtreme VPN to the latest version — reinstall it if needed — then connect and try again.
2. If it still drops with TUN mode, launch your computer's network connections and look for a virtual adapter named 'tun0' or 'LightXtreme VPN'. If it is missing, reset the network and restart the computer, then turn LightXtreme VPN on again with TUN mode selected.
If neither step helps, tap Support on the My page of the app and we will assist you directly.

You will see this message when the Apple ID you are signed in with belongs to mainland China. LightXtreme VPN is not listed in the mainland App Store, so no matching item can be found.
Fix: sign in with an Apple ID from another region - Hong Kong, for example - then buy again inside the app.

Some countries and regions do not carry LightXtreme VPN, so a direct search may return nothing.
Switch your Apple ID region to Hong Kong, or register a Hong Kong Apple ID and search again; the shared Apple ID we provide can also be used to download the app.

This is usually down to local network quality. When mobile coverage (5G included) is unstable, the device switches between towers repeatedly, which interrupts loading, stops images refreshing and prevents messages from sending.
Move to a steadier network or pick a different regional line and try again.

iOS 16 has a few network-related bugs of its own that can trigger odd prompts while connecting.
Fix: open Settings, go to General, then Transfer or Reset iPhone, Reset, and choose Reset Network Settings. Reconnect afterwards.

First check whether the Apple ID you are signed in with belongs to mainland China; if you changed region recently, Apple may still be syncing.
Fix: sign out, then sign back in with a Hong Kong Apple ID and download again.

If you downloaded LightXtreme VPN with Apple ID A and later updated it with Apple ID B, verification fails.
Fix: uninstall the app and download it again with a single Apple ID.

This message usually means an older copy of LightXtreme VPN is still on the device and conflicts with the current App Store version.
Fix: delete the old version and install the new one.

The message normally means an older build of LightXtreme VPN is still installed and conflicts with the current store version.
Fix: delete the old version and install the new one.

This usually happens because an older version of LightXtreme VPN is still on the device and clashes with the App Store version.
Fix: delete the old version and install the new one.

The Apple ID you are signed in with is not the one originally used to download LightXtreme VPN.
Two options: switch back to the Apple ID that downloaded the app and update; or delete the app and reinstall it with your current Apple ID - back up your account name and password first.

1. Make sure the client sits in the Applications folder. If it does not, drag it there, then sign in and connect again.
2. Try Safari as a test. If Safari works, another browser is probably running a proxy or ad-blocking extension - disable those extensions and the problem goes away.

Here is what to do:
In your phone settings or device manager, allow LightXtreme VPN to run in the background and grant the related permissions, such as auto-start and start with other apps.
